A waterfall in the countryside
The Adonis Baths are a small waterfall feeding an emerald-green pool, set among cliffs and dense greenery about 12km north of Paphos near the village of Koili. The last stretch is an off-road track, which is why it's one of our safari stops rather than a spot you'd drive to in a regular car. There's a small entrance fee to visit the site.
The myth behind the name
In Greek mythology this is said to be where Aphrodite and Adonis met and spent much of their time together, with legend crediting the site as the birthplace of several of their children. Local folklore still holds that a swim here brings beauty and vitality, and older stories describe it as a training ground where ancient warriors bathed to build strength before battle.
What to do when you get there
Most visitors come for a swim under the waterfall itself, but there's more to see beyond the water: a few short walking trails through the surrounding greenery, several statues of Aphrodite, Adonis and other figures from the myth dotted around the site, and shaded spots where you can sit with a picnic and take it all in before or after you cool off.
Why we stop here
It's a natural, shaded stop on our longer safari route: a good place to cool off with a swim before continuing on toward the coast.
